Five Vancouver Restaurants Worth Visiting This Summer
One of the things I enjoy most about living and working in Vancouver is the opportunity to combine movement, good food, and great company.
A walk along the seawall, a Pilates class, a business meeting, or an afternoon catching up with a friend often ends with a meal. While healthy living is often associated with exercise, what we eat and how we connect with others are equally important parts of our wellbeing.
Here are five Vancouver restaurants that I find myself returning to again and again.
1/ Miku Restaurant
Miku has become one of Vancouver’s most recognized dining destinations for good reason.
The waterfront location, exceptional service, and thoughtfully prepared menu make it a favourite for special occasions, business lunches, and entertaining visitors. It’s one of those restaurants that reminds you why Vancouver has become known as a world-class food city.
2/ Acquafarina
If you’re looking for a dining experience that feels a little more special, Acquafarina is worth putting on your list.
Known for its exceptional ingredients, elegant atmosphere, and impressive wine cellar, it’s the kind of restaurant that transforms dinner into an occasion. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, entertaining guests, or simply treating yourself to a memorable night out, Acquafarina delivers an elevated experience from start to finish.
For a more social experience, grab a seat at the bar, where you can enjoy the full menu while taking in the energy of the restaurant.
Sometimes wellbeing is about movement. Sometimes it’s about connection. And sometimes it’s about slowing down long enough to enjoy a truly exceptional meal.
3/ JOS
Nestled in Coal Harbour, JOS is one of Vancouver’s hidden gems.
Known for its wood-fired pizzas, fresh ingredients, and relaxed European atmosphere, it’s the kind of place that feels equally suited for a casual dinner with friends or a leisurely evening over a glass of wine. The pizza dough is prepared fresh daily and cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven, creating the light, crisp crust that has earned JOS a loyal following among locals and visitors alike. The menu also features fresh salads, charcuterie, and seasonal dishes designed for sharing.
What I appreciate most about JOS is its versatility. On a sunny Vancouver evening, the patio is the perfect place to unwind after a walk along the seawall. When the rain arrives, the warm interior and glow of the wood-fired oven create a cozy atmosphere that invites you to slow down and stay awhile.
It’s a reminder that some of the best dining experiences aren’t just about the food—they’re about the setting, the company, and the opportunity to enjoy the moment.
4/ Monarca – Cocina
A newer addition to Gastown’s vibrant dining scene, Monarca offers a fresh and modern take on Mexican cuisine.
The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring bright flavours, high-quality ingredients, and dishes that feel both satisfying and surprisingly light. The squash tacos are a personal favourite—simple, flavourful, and a great example of how vegetables can take centre stage.
Monarca is an excellent choice whether you’re stopping in for happy hour before exploring Gastown or settling in for dinner after an evening event. Pair your meal with a stroll through the neighbourhood’s historic streets, a walking tour, or a visit to the local shops and galleries to make a complete experience of it.
What I enjoy most about Monarca is that it captures the energy of Gastown while offering a dining experience that feels contemporary, approachable, and effortlessly enjoyable.
Sometimes the best evenings start with good food and end with an unexpected adventure.
5/ Cardero’s
Cardero’s seems to make everyone’s list of Vancouver favourites—and for good reason.
Located on the waterfront in Coal Harbour, it offers one of the city’s best covered patios, making it a great choice regardless of whether you’re enjoying a sunny summer evening or one of Vancouver’s more typical rainy days. The marina views, relaxed atmosphere, and waterfront setting create an experience that feels distinctly Vancouver.
What keeps Cardero’s on my list, however, is the live music. The restaurant regularly features local musicians, transforming an ordinary meal into a memorable evening out. Whether you’re gathering with friends, entertaining visitors, or planning a date night, the combination of good food, great views, and live music creates an experience that’s about much more than dinner.
You don’t even need to commit to a full meal. Sometimes a nightcap, a waterfront view, and a few songs are all it takes to make an evening special.
After all, some of the best moments in life aren’t planned—they happen when good food, good company, and good music come together in the same place.
More Than a Meal
What I appreciate most about these restaurants isn’t just the food.
They create opportunities to connect, celebrate, reflect, and recharge.
In a culture that often encourages us to eat at our desks and rush from one commitment to the next, taking time to enjoy a meal can be an act of self-care. It’s a chance to slow down, be present, and reconnect—with ourselves and the people around us.
Whether it’s lunch with a colleague, dinner with friends, or a quiet meal after a walk along the seawall, those moments matter.
A balanced life isn’t built through grand gestures. It’s built through small daily choices that support our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
Sometimes that looks like a Pilates class.
Sometimes it looks like a walk.
And sometimes it looks like sharing a great meal, enjoying good conversation, and making time for the people and experiences that bring us joy.
Because wellbeing isn’t just about how we move—it’s also about how we connect, nourish ourselves, and enjoy life.
Strong body. Calm mind. Balanced life.
