What to Do for Fun in Vancouver This Summer
Summer in Vancouver is one of the best times of the year to get outside, explore the city, and connect with friends. Whether you’re a local, a visitor, or simply looking for new ways to stay active, these five activities offer the perfect combination of movement, fresh air, and enjoyment.
As a bonus, they’re also great ways to add more movement to your day—without feeling like a workout.
1. Bike Around Stanley Park
Rent a bike and explore the Stanley Park Seawall. The views are spectacular at any time of day, and the full loop can be completed in about an hour, depending on how often you stop to take in the scenery.
If you have extra time, pack a picnic or stop for a meal at the Teahouse. Second Beach and Third Beach are both wonderful places to relax, enjoy the ocean views, and watch the sunset. During the summer months, they often become gathering spots for locals and visitors alike.
2. Play a Round of Pitch & Putt
No golfing experience? No problem.
The Stanley Park Pitch & Putt is one of Vancouver’s hidden gems and a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends. Clubs and balls are available to rent, making it an easy activity for beginners and occasional golfers.
Mornings and evenings tend to be less busy, especially during peak summer months. After your round, head to Stanley Park Brewing for a refreshing drink or casual meal on the patio.
3. Hit the Tennis Courts
Tennis is a fantastic way to enjoy Vancouver’s long summer days.
Public courts can be found throughout the city, including several in Stanley Park. Most courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it easy to grab a racquet and play whenever the opportunity arises.
If it’s been a while since you’ve played, spend a few minutes warming up before jumping into a match. Your muscles and joints will thank you the next day.
4. Take a Swim
There is something uniquely refreshing about spending a summer afternoon in the water.
Vancouver is home to two iconic outdoor pools: Second Beach Pool in Stanley Park and Kitsilano Pool overlooking English Bay. Whether you’re swimming laps, cooling off after a walk, or simply relaxing poolside, both offer a quintessential Vancouver summer experience.
For those who prefer open water, Vancouver’s beaches provide plenty of opportunities to swim, paddle board, or simply enjoy the ocean views.
5. Try Pickleball
If you haven’t tried pickleball yet, summer is the perfect time to give it a go.
The sport continues to grow in popularity because it’s social, accessible, and easy to learn. Most community centres offer lessons, drop-in sessions, and court rentals for players of all skill levels.
Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, meet new people, or simply have some fun, pickleball checks all the boxes.
Elevate the Experience
One of my favourite ways to enjoy Vancouver is to combine movement with good food and conversation.
After your bike ride, golf game, tennis match, swim, or pickleball session, meet a friend for brunch, coffee, or a light meal. Vancouver’s patios come alive in the summer and provide the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy the season.
Movement doesn’t always have to be about performance, calories, or tracking your steps. Sometimes the best activities are the ones that simply bring us joy.
This summer, make time for both fitness and fun. Your body, mind, and spirit will thank you for it.
Strong body. Calm mind. Balanced life.
